We are a bit behind with all these double headers and the trade deadline looming. Here is a recap of last Saturday.

This game is effectively a 4 point game. Both teams are stuck in that glut in the middle of the standings. Fun Park was the better team in the first 10 minutes of this one. Unfortunately, they were up against Bobby Rai on the other side and BRai weathered their early storm. No goals were scored until 2:31 left in the first. Deepu found Gagan Khaira streaking into the slot and Gagan beat a guy right in front of him then went backhand five hole. Nice goal. Then a minute later, Deepu got the ball from his brother Preet Sandhu and took a shot from a very sharp angle. But it had mustard on it and it lasered far side for a goal.

Fun Park cut the lead in half a minute into the 2nd. 2 on 1, Sam Punian to Romeo Deol, Romeo hits it first time and in. Goalie Joe Sandhu who also played well, got the assist on this. 7 minutes later, Armanjot Gill adds to his career year point tally with another goal. On an aside, Armanjot wasn’t sure he was going to play this year, we applied some friendly peer pressure before the season started and now he’s killing it. Wingers want to be him, centres want to be with him. 2-2. Fun Park made it three straight goals, Sam Punian turned and shot at the blueline, this was not a hard shot but the change up fooled the goalie. 3-2. 4-2 after Armanjot Gill again scored. Ran in, sniped. Wow, this guy would have been eating daal all summer now he’s at Cactus Club showing the waitresses his forearm tattoo of the league stats. Gagan Khaira scored another nice goal from Sarman Malhi and Hot Shot Sponsor, Prabh Thind. 4-3. Deepu Sandhu took over after this. With his team down by 1 with a minute twenty-five left, Deepu snapped one from the circles. Then in OT, Deepu took a harmless shot but it deflected in. Got to shoot to score. 5-4 Hot Shot in OT. Interesting stat, Joe Sandhu had two assists today.

1PM: PIZZA 38 vs ERC

Comparatively this game wasn’t as exciting so this write up won’t be as long. Pizza 38 played good in the first half but ERC is a team comfortable with having less possession and they don’t panic when they are down. As long as they don’t give away clear chances, their goalie will gobble up the half chances. Pizza 38 scored first, Gurjoyt Arora had some time in the crease area and he raised it top cheese bar down. 1-0. Then ERC scored 3 straight. Amiraj snipe from the slot from Harman Sangha and Vineet Kanwar. Then Harprit Aujla in a scramble in front of the net and finally Amiraj again from Vineet and Navu. 3-1 ERC.

Eyes needs every win and they were in tough against first place Telus. Or so we thought. Telus took several penalties but Eyes were the better team regardless. Goals from Nav Khinda, 2x Amit Singh, Manjot Jaggi, Khalil Juma, Arshail Ahmed and Parm Pandher were more than enough to topple Telus. Telus had scoring from Jason Heer, snipe from left circle. Mano deflected a shot from Manraj Khosa and Banga scored one 7-3 Eyes.

Today was an upset kind of day. Art Homes got the crucial two points beating All India 4-3 in OT. Goals for All India were Nick Janjua from Sunny Basi, Harminder Atwal unassisted and Sim Mahal from Nick and Harminder. Art’s goals were Roni Sandhu from Akash Metha. Ram Soos from Sukhman Thind, Amanvir Sanghera from Akash Metha and Kulshaan Kahlon and Sukhman Thind from Akash Mehta. Art Homes is trending the right direction right before playoffs.

The pattern continued. Gallo had a great first half but fell apart in the second. Gallo enjoyed goals from Chaten Grewal who ripped one from the point. Joe Sangha, breakaway top shelf and Rajan Dhami from the slot. Mani Boparai scored for DI from Anoop Grewal. Amit Mann roasted a guy through the legs and went on a half break and sniped to score his. 3-2 Gallo at half. And Jesse Virdee scored 5 minutes into the 2nd half to tie this one. The PBHL turning point was at 3-3. Gallo took a penalty then their player received an unsportsmanlike conduct and got kicked out of the game. From there, DI scored 3 unanswered. Goals from JJ, Mani and Gary. Shots were 29-19 for DI. 6-3 win for DI.
